En reciente reunión del Consejo Internacional de Estudios Canadienses (ICCS-CIEC) en la ciudad de Ottawa, la Asociación Chilena de Estudios Canadienses fue invitada - por votación unánime - a incorporarse a dicha organización como miembro asociado. Ello permitirá que los socios de ACHECA puedan optar a un importante programa de becas de estudio y de movilidad académica que el ICCS- CIEC ofrece a sus asociados. Y que se suman a los programas de becas que ofrece el gobierno canadiense a los miembros de las comunidades de estudios canadienses repartidas por todo el mundo.

The Chilean Association of Canadien Studies is the newest official member of the International Council of Canadian Studie

 It was by unanimous decision that the International Council of Canadian Studies (ICCS) voted in favour of incorporating the Chilean Association of Canadian Studies (ACHECA in its Spanish acronym, www.acheca.cl) as its newest member. Over the past few years, ACHECA has legally incorporated itself and adopted strict administrative standards, including periodical general assemblies, a predetermined election process for the board of directors, and the elaboration of an annual program of activities. ACHECA has been rewarded by being named to the ICCS, which will permit it to have access to all the programs offered by this latter organization.

ACHECA has put together a series of excellent initiatives over the past year, notably a seminar in Santiago on Canadian investment strategies in Chile, a seminar in the southern city of Concepcion on free trade agreements, and a meeting in another southern city of Temuco on Canadian studies. ACHECA also facilitated a dialogue among academics from several Chilean and Latin American universities. These activities attracted multidisciplinary audiences, and showed the excellent work of ACHECA both in the capital city and in other regions of Chile.

ACHECA president Sergio Stange is also a Council Member of the Latin American Network of Canadian Studies (RELEC) www.relec.org, which has a large role to play in Latin America in the framework of the new "Understanding Canada" program, notably in the pre-selection of scholarship applicants.

STAGO – L'Association chilienne d'études canadiennes est le nouveau membre officiel du Conseil international d'études canadiennes

C'est à l'unanimité que le Conseil international d'études canadiennes (CIEC) a récemment voté en faveur de l'intégration de l'Association chilienne d'études canadiennes (ACHECA www.acheca.cl) comme nouveau membre associé. Au cours des dernières années ACHECA a enregistré légalement ses statuts et a adopté des normes administratives strictes incluant des assemblées générales périodiques, un processus prédéterminé d'élection pour le Conseil de direction et une planification annuelle d'activités. Ceci leur permet aujourd'hui d'être membre associé du CIEC et d'avoir accès à tous les programmes offerts par cet organisme.

Nous nous rappellerons que l'ACHECA a réalisé cette année plusieurs activités importantes, notamment le séminaire de Santiago sur les stratégies canadiennes d'investissement au Chili, le séminaire de Concepción sur les traités de libre-échange et la rencontre sur les études canadiennes à Temuco, dans le Sud du Chili. L'Association a aussi facilité le dialogue entre universitaires de plusieurs universités chiliennes et d'Amérique latine. Ces activités ont attiré un public multidisciplinaire et ont démontré l'excellent travail que l'ACHECA fait dans la capitale et dans les autres régions du pays.

À noter que le président de l'ACHECA, Sergio Stange, est aussi membre du Conseil du réseau d'Amérique latine en études canadiennes (RELEC – www.relec.org). Cet organisme aura un rôle prépondérant à jouer en Amérique latine dans le cadre du nouveau programme Comprendre le Canada, notamment lors de la préselection de boursiers.

L'ambassade du Canada est fière d'appuyer le travail de la direction de l'ACHECA (Sergio Stange, président; Verónica Schlegel, secrétaire; Martin Montalva, vice-président; Patricio Iglesias, trésorier) et de ses membres canadianistes, qui ont bien mérité cette désignation.
